CreditCards.com has released a list of “7 Reasons why your next cell phone should have an NFC chip,” focusing mainly on the convenience, security and a promising future of Google Wallet. Here are the highlights:
-
Contrary to popular fears, mobile payments are more secure than physical credit cards, asserts CreditCards.com. According to Google rep. Nate Tyler, Google Wallet is protected by a PIN, which must be entered correctly within five tries or the app locks down. Additionally, remote “phone hacking” is far more difficult than the media portrays, as the hacker must get within two inches of the user’s phone.
-
Coupons are automatically saved and redeemed in Google Wallet, meaning you won’t have to shuffle through a purse – electronic or otherwise – to find the right coupon. Users can also “clip” digital coupons from emails and save them to their Google Wallet.
-
Google provides an ongoing list of purchases that are viewable any time in the app, making it easier for users to track their spending. Receipts are also automatically stored in the app – no more paper.
-
Although some users of the nascent Google Wallet system have reported failed transactions, when operating correctly Google Wallet is significantly quicker than using cash or credit.
-
The prepaid card feature on Google Wallet helps shoppers avoid credit card interest and can be used to self-impose limits on spending.
-
Finally, there’s the space beyond payments – tickets, boarding pass and even car keys could be stored on an NFC phone in the near future.
