China’s Daily RFID has released a new low-cost plug-and-play contactless smart card reader designed for use in industrial and outdoor environments. The reader will hit the market this month at a planned $48 per unit.
In addition to its low price point, Daily RFID expects users to find the device’s low consumption of power appealing. The 13.56MHz reader can be powered via a USB interface with a PC or a PDA. The reader has a read range of between 50 and 100 millimeters, and offers LED indicator lights for standby search and data communication functions.
Daily RFID is marketing the reader as particularly suited for access control, time and attendance, industrial automation, process control and logistics applications.
