Container Centralen (CC), a Danish company that rents shipping racks to produce growers, has chosen RF Code’s active RFID technology to track its shipping racks traveling throughout North America.
Fluensee, a business partner of RF Code, will provide software for the tracking system, as well as implementation and support services, while RF Code will supply the active tags and readers.
The system involves tagging CC’s containers with active RFID tags, which are monitored by readers that pick up movement and location information and transmit that information to the software via the internet.
Because internet access is often limited for growers in remote areas, RF Code devised a solar battery-powered reader that that is capable of recharging itself using the sun`s energy. After receiving tag location and movement
information, the reader then transmits that tag data to a 3G solar powered dial-up modem to send the information back to the software, where CC personnel view it.
Initial implementation is set for mid-February 2010 and will include some 150 locations and 250,000 CC racks.
