Technology developer IBM and Fujitsu Frontech North America, a developer of biometric solutions, have announced a joint effort that utilizes Fujitsu’s palm-vein biometric technology and IBM’s enterprise single sign-on technology. The offering form the two companies serves as a means of doing away with password based systems and replacing them with biometric signatures and is designed for use in companies or organizations that could implement them across their organization to all those involved there.
The specific technology that is utilized for the new solution is Fujitsu’s PalmSecure vascular technology, which uses near-infrared light to view and authenticate via the unique vein pattern in one’s palm, and IBM’s Tivoli Access Manager for Single Sign-On, which allows the movement of multiple different logical and physical access control systems to fall under a single authentication method.
Beyond the ability to simplify systems for various organizations that currently require their employees to have a number of identifications and passwords ready for daily activities, the two are also touting the advantages of the vascular biometrics technology of the new solution. As vascular biometrics do not require contact with a scanner, report accuracy rivaling iris scanning technology and are very hard to fool, both companies are optimistic that the solution will be seen as a great fit for many operations.
