Canadian firm GAO RFID Inc. has released a new 2.4GHz active beaconing RFID tag. The tag, which also features an alarm system to guard against tampering, is intended for use in asset locating and tracking and warehouse inventory management applications.
The new tag has a signal range of 30 meters and transmits its ID signal every two seconds. In addition, when the tag receives a specific signal from a nearby RFID reader, a built-in LED flashes to assist the user in locating the asset the tag is attached.
The tags also include a tamper-proofing feature which triggers an alarm signal if the tag is removed. A tiny button on the bottom of the tag is pushed in when the tag is attached to the asset. With the button depressed, the tag will transmit a “normal” signal. If the tag is peeled off, the button will pop up, causing the tag to send an “alarm” signal indicating abnormal status.
