RFID readers with integrated antennas are the product of the moment, as GAO RFID Asset Tracking has announced the launch of its own version of the space-saving device, the same day as ThingMagic debuted its version.
GAO’s device is a simple, low-cost and low-profile alternative to traditional readers featuring external antenna ports only, taking up half the space. The GAO reader/antenna includes an integrated antenna as well as a second external antenna port, and also offers “portals” enabling connection to the larger readers with external antennas. This enables the device to act as a turnkey portal solution in warehouse or manufacturing environments.
The new reader has Power over Ethernet capability, along with a power converter for sites where POE is not available.
The GAO reader/antenna communicates using the Alien Reader protocol and includes Alien RFID Gateway software. GAO RFID Asset Tracking is a spin-off of RFID supplier GAO RFID Inc., which last week announced the addition of Alien Technology’s products to its line of solutions.
