Google acquisition brings in facial recognition technology

Google has acquired Pittsburgh Pattern Recognition (PittPatt), a seven year-old developer of facial recognition technology, though has yet to disclose terms of the deal or what the company plans to do with it, according to a Wall Street Journal article.
Despite not releasing any specific plans, a spokesman for Google did release that the technology holds many potential benefits to their users.
Previously, Google has dabbled in bringing facial recognition services to its users with different product, but before releasing the application, the company decided to remove the facial recognition capabilities after deciding the potential for misuse was too high.
