L-1 Identity Solutions Inc. has received more than $9 million in task orders from multiple customers for 1,460 PIER and PIER-T iris enrollment and recognition devices, 535 HIIDE Expansion Module Jumpkits and more than 10,000 batteries for biometric devices. The company expects to begin shipments in the third quarter of 2008. The names of the customers cannot be disclosed.
The PIER is a ruggedized, handheld iris enrollment and recognition device used by law enforcement officers and military personnel to identify subjects in the field. PIER devices have onboard data capacity storage of up to 200,000 iris templates which enable flexible in-field identifications and can match an unknown individual against a database of millions with extremely high accuracy within seconds. The PIER uses the L-1 Daugman iris recognition algorithm for biometric matching.
The EM Jumpkit has a variety of configurations depending on customer demands and includes a HIIDE device, a HIIDE Expansion Module, an L-1 TouchPrint 4100 Live Scan device for slap and roll fingerprint capture, and battery, in a highly compact and ruggedized case.
