Air France is gearing up to pilot a voluntary biometric program by the end of the year that will allow frequent passengers to obtain travel information and boarding passes from a kiosk using a smart card encrypted with their biometrics. The card is intended to build brand loyalty for Air France. They will also gain access to a special boarding portal at the gate that will open automatically once the card is inserted and positively matched. The “smartboarding personal card” will hold captures of the forefinger and thumb prints. Frequent fliers between Paris Charles de Gaulle and Amsterdam will test out the program. Plans include expanding to rental car companies such as Hertz and hotels.
