Michigan taps L-1 for EDLs and driver licenses

L-1 Identity Solutions Inc. was awarded a contract by the Michigan Department of State to centrally produce secure digital driver’s licenses and ID cards.
All cards manufactured by the L-1 system will meet federal credentialing security standards. L-1 will also produce Enhanced Driver Licenses issued under the new contract will satisfy federal border crossing requirements under the Western Hemisphere Travel Initiative.
The contract is valued at $39.8 million and will run for seven years, with an additional two-year extension possible at the option of the State.
