Mumbai’s Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA) is in the process of establishing an integrated ticketing system for all modes of transit in the Mumbai Metropolitan Region.
According to The Indian Express, all public transports operators have confirmed their participation in the project; all except for the railways, which have yet to respond.
Once fully functional, the smart card-based ticketing system would enable commuters to travel across the future monorail, Metro rail and public transport buses in Mumbai, and the surrounding area, all with a single smart card.
The MMRDA plans to announce the names of qualified applicants on February 24 and intends to award a final contract by May or June next year, with a fully-functional integrated ticketing system slated for 2014.
