Netherlands taps Gemalto for e-driver licenses
Gemalto is delivering the Sealys electronic driver license to RDW, the public body responsible for driver licensing and vehicle registration in the Netherlands. The Gemalto driving license combines visual, physical and electronic security features that provide strong protection against fraud and forgery.
In addition, a contactless microprocessor stores all the individual details printed on a tamper-proof polycarbonate body. It will enable the Dutch police force to verify the authenticity of the document with authorized NFC mobile readers.
The credit card-sized document meets all the requirements of the latest EU-wide initiative to establish a modern driving license in member states. RDW evaluated a number of security design offerings and Gemalto’s proposal inlcluded:
- A transparent window in the pure polycarbonate structure provides an immediate visual check
- The brand new Sealys Secure Surface feature enables tactile relief and optical effects on certain areas of the document
- Sealys Edge Sealer offers additional protection through laser markings on the edge of the card
Infineon releases token for Google two-step verification
Infineon Technologies AG announced availability of a USB token reference design supporting FIDO Alliance Universal 2nd Factor authentication standards. This FIDO Ready USB token, based on the Infineon SLE 78 security controller, enables end users to take advantage of second factor authentication without the need for cumbersome manual methods.
The reference design supports Google’s Security Key two-step verification. With Security Key, a Universal 2nd Factor USB token that contains a secret cryptographic signature is used to log in to Google web sites. The token will only exchange its signature in a valid Google site, thus protecting users from phishing attacks.
