A new application has been developed for the Android operating system that enables users to secure specific applications by requiring a user pass face recognition before being able to access anything protected, according to a Homeland Security Newswire article.
The new app, called Visidon Applock, requires users to be running on Android 2.3, or Gingerbread, or higher and can only be used on phones with front facing cameras, though the developers are looking into incorporating non-front-facing cameras for future versions of the app.
As it stands, experts are saying that the app still has some bugs to be worked out, but expect it to be something improved upon in the future and comes with a password override should a user experience problems having his face recognized properly.
The app is available for free on Android’s Marketplace, though it has not been revealed for how long the application will remain a free option for users.
