UK’s Royal Mail has announced the issuance of its new interactive “Great British Railway Special Stamp,” courtesy of m2end, NFC specialist RBIT and metaio.
The commemorative stamp enables iPhone and Android users to view thematic online content on their phone’s browser by simply scanning the stamp with the phone’s camera. In this particular case, the stamp launches a recital of the poem “Night Mail” by actor Bernard Cribbins.
To access the content, users must first launch metaio’s junaio AR browser and open the Royal Mail channel. All necessary applications are available for download on the iTunes store or Android market.
According to Philip Parker, Royal Mail’s Head of Stamp Strategy, this is the first time a national postal service has used this kind of technology on their stamps, and it won’t be the last for Royal Mail.
