UK mobile operator O2 has signed a three year, multi-million pound contract with e-banking software specialist Parseq to help build, host and manage its new mobile wallet service, according to Stockmarketwire.com.
The O2 Mobile Wallet, set to debut in the second half of 2011, will allow customers to manage their bank accounts directly from their handsets, as well as enable contactless mobile payments, mobile shopping, mobile phone top-up and peer to peer money exchange.
Parseq’s mobile and online banking software business, Intelligent Environments, will be responsible for developing and managing the mobile wallet app across a wide range of handsets.
James le Brocq, managing director of O2 Money, comments: “We required an application provider that could work closely with us to develop a new and exciting channel to market for O2 Money. We want to give our customers a platform to manage money in an easy yet secure mobile environment, working across a wide range of handsets. Intelligent Environments will work with us to deliver an app to meet these needs and also create future opportunities for our customers to use their phone as a payments device.”
