Oxford’s Stagecoach services has launched an Oyster card-style contactless smart card system across its entire fleet of 160 buses, according to Whitney Gazette.
To use the new system, passengers must first load cash credit onto their StagecoachSmart cards either online, on the bus, or at Gloucester Green bus station. The card can then be simply passed over a contactless reader installed on the bus to pay for the fare.
The city’s other main bus operator, Oxford Bus Company, issued its own smart card ticketing service three years ago, and plans to launch an updated version that will be compatible with Stagecoach’s new system in the coming weeks, according to WG.
