Repsol, an integrated Spanish oil and gas company, has installed PIN pads with contactless technology in 140 services stations across Barcelona and Balearic Islands.
The contactless deployment follows “la Caixa” and its announcement that the bank has already issued more than 950,000 contactless cards and has 19,000 PIN pads in operation which are adapted to the new technology across the region.
Repsol is thus the first IBEX35 company to offer customers the possibility of paying with contactless technology with no need to physically insert the card and no PIN or signature required for purchases under 20 euros; and the payment is made instantaneously.
The contactless payment system is of particular interest to busy establishments, such as the Repsol and its 3,600 service stations service station network, which welcomes over one million customers every day.
