Deerfield Public Library of Deerfield, Ill. has plans to introduce RFID technology to enhance inventory monitoring and also to support its newly installed self checkout kiosks, according to the Deerfield Patch.
Checking in materials will be handled by the new RFID tag system. Book and periodical returns will be automatically machine-scanned upon check in, reducing errors and speeding up the return of materials.
Library patrons will be able to quickly check out resources using the electronic RFID tag system, allotting staff more time to focus on providing service to guests, helping them locate specific books or research materials.
“Installing the system will be very helpful in categorizing and moving the library’s collection to temporary quarters when construction is underway and returning it to the renovated building when completed,” said Mary Pergander, library director.
