SafeNet Inc. announced that its USB-based eToken PRO 72K (Java) and eToken PRO Smartcard 72K (Java) authentication solutions received FIPS 140-2 Level 2 and 3 certifications.
The range of authentication solutions offered by SafeNet enables organizations to protect sensitive data, digital identities and network resources and infrastructure across multiple domains, including VPNs, laptops and PCs. These solutions are supported by the Token Management System 5.0 which aims to simplify password and authenticator management and deployment.
As the flagship product of SafeNet’s certificate-based authentication portfolio, the eToken PRO USB, along with its smart card form factor, are the company’s first Java-based authenticators to undergo testing by the accredited NIST cryptographic module testing lab at InfoGard.
FIPS 140-2 defines requirements for providing cryptographic functions and protecting the associated keys. This mandate ensures that a security product must be able to protect its own keys, provide for safe Application Programming Interfaces (APIs), run self-tests, maintain a means to communicate its status, and enable for role-based authentication of users. FIPS 140-2 Level 3 establishes that the token is tamper-proof, while Levels 1 and 2 require tamper-evident features.
