Science Applications International Corp., provider of scientific, engineering, systems integration and technical services and solutions, announced the initial design and deployment of an RFID system at the U.S. General Services Administration Western Distribution Center, which supports the tagging of materials shipped to the Warfighter, in French Camp, California.
The installation includes an intelligent tracking and controls system and real-time location system developed by RF Controls, LLC, which uses advanced bidirectional electronically steerable phased array antenna technology to achieve enhanced operating range for a passive RFID system.
This technology enables the GSA to read Department of Defense (DoD) compliant passive RFID smart labels – about 350,000 shipments annually – through the use of the ceiling mounted antennas. The deployed system then tracks each tag, validating shipment movements, achieving consolidation, and generating advance shipment notifications.
