San Bernardino students use their college IDs to ride buses
Students from the Art Institute of California, San Bernardino, have joined other students from other area colleges in using their ID cards to ride the local Omnitrans buses. With a simple swipe of their card, students can ride the buses at anytime on any route, not just to and from campus.
Swiping the ID cards in the new fare boxes allows the bus agency to capture usage data by school, by route and even individual ID.
This part of the test program is funded by The Art Institute and if consistently utilized by the student body for the initial trial (May through June) the pilot could transition into an ongoing program.
Students at Chaffey, Crafton Hills and San Bernardino Valley colleges and California State University at San Bernardino are already part of the pilot that was initially launched last August.
