Gemalto and international payments processor SIA have partnered to provide rapid deployment of NFC services across Italy.
The partnership will mark the first national trusted service management infrastructure in Europe that can be utilized by all key market stakeholders. Moreover, the TSM will be made accessible to the country’s leading mobile network operators and banking institutions.
The TSM is in its pilot phase, with full commercial launch expected by mid-2013. SIA has reportedly gained the support of Italy’s largest telecom operators and banks in an effort to provide NFC services. The partnership will offer Allynis Trusted Service Management and will be operated by Gemalto’s Visa and MasterCard certified European secure data center.
To accompany the country’s NFC payments revolution, some 200,000 contactless payment terminals are expected to be deployed in Italy by year’s end. SIA intends to bring Italy to the cutting edge of mobile payments by forging a secure, scalable infrastructure that ensures full interoperability and can seamlessly accommodate new service providers.
