SIA Central Europe, an IT systems operator supporting bankcard issuance and transactions, is looking to work with financial institutions in Hungary and other Central European countries to deliver NFC-enabled mobile services, according to QR Code Press.
SIA is hoping to create new mobile payment services that are viable for mass adoption among bank customers in the region. The goal, according to QR Code Press, is to ultimately replace physical currency altogether with secure and user-friendly NFC-based payment systems.
SIA cites Hungary as particularly fertile ground for its NFC efforts, claiming over a third of Central Europe’s 170 million mobile transactions in 2011 came from that country.
SIA says it will begin promoting NFC technology and mobile payments in Hungary later this year.
