Cubic’s San Diego County smart card transit system is experiencing a boost in rider participation, according to CNN Money.
Nearly two-thirds of the county’s 90,000 active pass riders are now using contactless Compass Cards, which were introduced last May.
The Compass card, a reloadable tap-and-go transit pass, will be delivered to the last of the county’s pass holders next month. Full deployment of the system will follow in May.
Cubic has also recently introduced a new feature that allows riders to log on to www.511sd.com to re-up their monthly passes. The credit is automatically added to the pass the next time the rider taps his or her card against a validator.
Riders can also register for “automatic reload,” in which a user’s card is automatically refilled at the start of a new month.
