Gemalto buys NXP mobile software business
In an effort to increase its offerings in the mobile payments market, Gemalto has acquired NXP’s mobile software development unit in Sophia Antipolis, France. The research and development team of about 20 employees will continue to develop and support software for the MIFARE4Mobile specifications, Paul Beverly, president of Gemalto North America tells NFCNews.
The specification enables management of MIFARE applications across multiple mobile devices. “We have been investing in NFC and the mobile market and by having this it helps build our offerings as a trusted service manager,” Beverly says.
The Trusted Service Manager (TSM) is the link between transport operators, banks, and mobile operators. “This enables the mobile phones to be used with the payment and contactless infrastructures,” Beverly says. “The TSM ensures the security around the downloading of the tickets and applications onto the mobile device.”
Terms of the deal, which are subject to regulatory approval, were not disclosed.
