Dozens of NFC phones await 2011 launch, says Google

Google software engineer Nick Pelly told delegates at the Google I/O conference that “dozens” of NFC phones will hit the market later this year, according to NFC World.
Although Pelly did not reveal any specific product names, he asserted that the company “knows personally dozens of phones in the pipeline for 2011 that are going to have NFC.”
Pelly also denied Google having any plans of forming partnerships to drive mobile payments, but he did have some encouraging things to say about Ice Cream Sandwich, the newest version of Android announced earlier today.
“We’re looking at peer-to-peer and we’re looking at bringing zero-click sharing to Ice Cream Sandwich,” said Pelly, adding that mobile payments support has “not been ruled out” of the API.
