Aspen Skiing plans to expand its deployment of radio frequency identification technology by embedding RFID in all daily lift tickets on is four Colorado mountain resorts, according to Computer World.
Last winter Aspen Skiing implemented RFID tags in its customers’ season passes and installed automated access gates at the resorts to streamline and enhance customers’ experience.
Some of the potential advantages the company hopes to gain include tracking all rental skis and boots at the four mountains, and possibly even extending the RFID program so that ski passes can be used as stored-value cards in any of its retail shops and restaurants.
Aspen Skiing hopes to get as much out of its investment in RFID technology as possible. It is also designing smartphone applications that send alerts to customers’ mobile phones when they’re at one of its resorts, offering them product or service discounts and notifying them about upcoming resort activities.
