PTC launches first mobile payment pilot in Poland
Polish mobile operator PTC has partnered with Inteligo bank and MasterCard to launch the first NFC payment pilot in Poland. The trial, which launched on May 20, will run for 4 months with 100 selected PTC & Inteligo customers, VIPs and journalists.
Trial participants can make payments using a Samsung S5230N NFC phone in various retail outlets, including cafes, restaurants, bookshops, gas stations and convenience stores.
The Samsung phones are equipped with MasterCard’s PayPass application via the PTC SIM card, which is linked to the debit account in Inteligo bank.
Users can make transactions valued up to PLN 50 ($14.50) without entering a PIN. The daily transaction limit has been set at PLN 300 ($85), but can be changed at the customer’s request.
The participating bank, Inteligo, says that initial feedback from the trial has been positive, and that users appreciate the speed of the transaction and value the fact that they are early adopters of this technology.
